Becoming eco-friendly in your laundry process doesn’t stop with the clothesline. Many laundry soaps are harsh on skin and the environment. Two options provide you with an alternative to store bought detergents. You can make your own or use soap nuts. Soap nuts are a natural, biodegradable source from trees in Nepal and India. You can find them in your local health food store and what you do is add four or five of them to a load in a cloth bag. The cloth bag of soap nuts can be used more than once. David Suzuki’s Queen of Green Lindsay Coulter, provides do it yourself videos for the David Suzuki Foundation. Her video of making your own laundry detergent can be found at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJbjwQEY4QA&feature=channel. Either way, switching your laundry detergent is one more step in becoming an eco-friendly laundry achiever.
